The Touch of Luxury: Why I Choose Silk and Merino? - journal | Krośko the Weaver

A guide to the noble fibers that form the foundation of my collections and ensure comfort for years to come.

On the dialogue between delicacy and durability in everyday objects.

Many people ask me what makes a hand-woven scarf different from one bought in a store. The answer begins long before I sit down at the loom—it begins with the choice of fiber. For me, silk and merino wool are the perfect duo.

Silk gives the fabric that characteristic, discreet shimmer and ensures it drapes beautifully over the shoulders. Merino, on the other hand, is nature in its most intelligent form: it warms when it’s cold and breathes when it gets warmer. When I combine them on the loom, I am creating more than just an accessory. I am creating a "second skin." Working with such noble materials requires precision—a silk thread is as thin as a cobweb, yet stronger than steel. It is this combination of fragility and strength that fascinates me most about weaving.
