Peat and Clay: Iron
Merino Wool
Handwoven artisan scarf made from Irish Donegal merino wool. The soft, natural wool gives the textile a warm, breathable, and richly textured feel. Thanks to the natural properties of merino wool, this scarf is perfect for autumn, winter, and early spring, offering a timeless accessory created in the spirit of slow fashion. The mini series of three scarves, “Peat and Clay” has a distinctly mineral and ceramic character. It reminds me of fertile soil and the dense layer of clay hidden beneath it — the same material that has been used to make pottery for centuries. The inspiration came unexpectedly while I was planting tomatoes in my greenhouse. As I uncovered the compact clay beneath a thin layer of rich topsoil, I found myself thinking about how remarkably diverse the world beneath our feet really is. “Peat and Clay: Iron” continues that story through shades of rust, brown, and warm earthy tones associated with iron hidden beneath the ground. It is a handwoven textile in which colour and texture reflect the natural processes taking place below the surface of the soil.
